On October 2, 2026, the Minister of Equipment and Infrastructure, Colonel-major Salissou Mahaman Salissou, visited several infrastructure projects in Tillabéri, Lossa, and Mara, to assess their progress and exchange with the teams on site. He was accompanied by the Governor of Tillabéri Region, Colonel Maïna Boukar, and technical officials.
The Minister inspected various road infrastructure projects, including a hydraulic structure in Lossa, which was previously only 1 meter high and has been upgraded to 2.5 meters, with four passages. The project, technically completed, aims to improve water flow and mitigate flood risks during the rainy season. The Minister instructed officials to carry out additional works to protect the village and surrounding farmland.
In Mara, the Minister inspected a 45-meter bridge, which has been reinforced and its height increased from 1.5 to 3 meters. The bridge's foundations have been designed with piles reaching 10 meters into the ground to ensure stability. The project, also technically completed, aims to improve mobility and safety for local communities, particularly during heavy rainfall.
The Minister emphasized the importance of these projects, which are part of the PRSP, a government initiative to strengthen Niger's infrastructure in the face of security, climate, and ecological challenges. The projects are financed by the World Bank through the Rural Mobility and Connectivity Project, attached to the Ministry of Equipment and Infrastructure.
The Minister's tour continued in the urban commune of Tillabéri, where he found a road construction project underway, with over a dozen infrastructure projects planned to ensure the functionality of the road network and water management. The delegation also visited sites for three docking facilities, whose construction is ongoing.
The Minister noted that difficulties in securing land for some project components had caused delays, but that these issues had been resolved and work had resumed. He stressed the need to take into account local realities, particularly water flow and protection of local communities.
The Minister praised the commitment of all actors involved in the projects and encouraged them to maintain their efforts to ensure the completion of the work, allowing these infrastructures to serve the populations of Tillabéri Region.
