The Coordination nationale des programmes de stabilisation et de prise en charge de la reddition au Niger (CNPSR) has organized a regional workshop in Diffa to strengthen the capacity of local actors in the reintegration of ex-combatants. The workshop, which took place on October 12, 2026, was attended by various stakeholders, including administrative officials, community leaders, and representatives of defense and security forces. The event aimed to promote the appropriation of national orientations by local actors and consolidate gains in peace and stability.

The workshop was presided over by the Secretary General of the Diffa region, Attahirou Mahamadou Maidouka, who emphasized the region's significant experience in ex-combatant reintegration. He recalled that Diffa had been at the forefront of national initiatives for reintegration, particularly in the fight against Boko Haram. The region had hosted a forum in December 2016, which led to the development of a framework document outlining strategies to mitigate the consequences of the crisis.

The CNPSR's national coordinator, Malan Goni Ibrahim, was also present at the workshop, which brought together a diverse range of participants. The event was organized under the auspices of the Ministry of Interior, Public Security, and Territorial Administration. The workshop aimed to build on the experience gained in Diffa and other regions, with a focus on consolidating peace and stability.

In his opening address, Maidouka highlighted the importance of capitalizing on the lessons learned from Diffa's experience. He noted that the region's initiatives had contributed to the development of Niger's expertise in ex-combatant reintegration. The workshop provided a platform for stakeholders to share experiences and best practices in reintegration.

The Diffa region has been severely affected by the Boko Haram insurgency, but has also made significant progress in reintegrating ex-combatants. In July 2017, the first socio-economic reintegration center for ex-combatants was established in Goudoumaria. The center provided support for ex-combatants, victims, and released individuals.

The workshop is part of a national tour aimed at strengthening the capacity of local actors in ex-combatant reintegration. The CNPSR is working to promote a coordinated approach to reintegration, with a focus on community-based initiatives. The event in Diffa follows similar workshops held in other regions.

The CNPSR's efforts to enhance capacity for ex-combatant reintegration are critical to promoting peace and stability in Niger. The workshop in Diffa has provided a valuable opportunity for stakeholders to share experiences and best practices. Key outcomes from the workshop are expected to inform future initiatives in ex-combatant reintegration.
