The Nigerien Agency for Road Safety (ANISER) recently carried out a road safety operation in Niamey, Niger's capital city. On October 8, 2026, ANISER agents were deployed to about ten roundabouts in the city to enforce traffic regulations. The operation aimed to educate the public on the importance of adhering to road safety rules to prevent accidents. This effort is part of ANISER's ongoing campaign to promote road safety in Niger.

Before the operation, ANISER Director General, Commissioner Abou Mountari, briefed the units on the dos and don'ts of the exercise. He emphasized the need for professionalism, discipline, and adherence to established rules. Mountari clarified that the operation was not targeted at specific individuals but rather at their behavior on the road, whether they are civilians or members of the defense and security forces.

At the end of the operation, Squadron Leader Ibrahim Bouda, Director of Road Control and Post-Accident Follow-up, explained that road safety is an ongoing process that requires consistent and regular efforts. Bouda highlighted that the team focused on common infractions such as failure to wear helmets and seatbelts, running red lights, crossing continuous lines, and other traffic code violations.

According to Squadron Leader Bouda, the goal of the operation was to inculcate a culture of road safety among users. He drew a parallel between protecting mobile phones with anti-shock covers and observing traffic rules, emphasizing that adherence to these rules is crucial for one's well-being, health, and safety. Bouda noted that a single accident can have lifelong consequences for a victim.

Bouda also pointed out that the behavior of road users reflects the public's perception of traffic rules and laws. He described the ANISER approach as progressive, noting that the current operation covered ten sites and that there was progress in terms of user understanding and agent professionalism.

The operation resulted in the interception of several road users who were found to be in violation of traffic rules, including motorcyclists and motorists. ANISER's efforts aim to reduce the incidence of road accidents in Niger by ensuring that road users comply with safety regulations.

ANISER's road safety operations are part of a broader strategy to promote a culture of safety on Niger's roads. The agency's initiatives seek to engage the public and enforce traffic laws to prevent accidents and protect lives.
