The Coordination nationale des Programmes de Stabilisation et de Prise en Charge de la Reddition (CNPSR), with support from the Centre pour le Dialogue Humanitaire (HD), organized a regional workshop on peace and social cohesion in Dosso, Niger, on October 27, 2026. The two-day event gathered administrative and customary authorities, defense and security forces, religious and community leaders, and civil society organizations.
The workshop was presided over by Colonel-major Bana Alhassane, Governor of the Dosso region, who stated that the event aligns with the strategic orientations of the Programme de Refondation de la République 2025-2029 of President General Abdourahamane Tiani. The Governor emphasized that the challenges facing communities require concerted responses based on permanent dialogue, solidarity, and collective responsibility.
Colonel-major Bana Alhassane noted that the Dosso region has traditionally been a space of peace, fraternity, and harmonious coexistence among communities. However, he highlighted that social changes, pressures related to access to resources, and security challenges in the Sahel region require anticipatory measures to preserve social cohesion gains.
The Governor stressed that social cohesion is the best weapon against threats and called for the evaluation of local conflict prevention and management mechanisms, strengthening synergy between administration, customary authorities, and civil society organizations, and increased involvement of women and youth in peace initiatives.
Malan Goni Ibrahim, Coordinator of CNPSR, speaking on behalf of the Minister of State for Interior, emphasized that durable security cannot be achieved solely through the action of defense and security forces. He stressed the importance of community mobilization, trust-building between populations and institutions, and consolidation of local mechanisms for peaceful conflict resolution.
Lawan Zoungou Massaoudou, Head of the HD-Niger office, recalled that the Centre pour le Dialogue Humanitaire (HD) works in Niger and several Sahel countries to prevent and resolve conflicts through mediation and dialogue. He highlighted the importance of strengthening community dynamics in favor of peace.
The regional dialogue aims to promote peace and social cohesion in the Dosso region, with a focus on prevention, community engagement, and local conflict management. The event provides a platform for stakeholders to discuss challenges and opportunities for sustainable peace and development in the region.
