The National Health Insurance Authority's Volta Regional Office has launched a plan to implement the Authority's 2026-2029 Medium-Term Strategic Plan. The plan was presented at a programme in Ho, attended by stakeholders from the Ghana Health Service, Christian Health Association of Ghana, and other regional officials. The plan aims to translate strategic objectives into concrete actions at regional and district levels.

Volta Regional Director of NHIA, Susan Chobbah, emphasized the importance of understanding the strategic plan for effective implementation. The Medium-Term Strategic Plan will serve as a roadmap for the Authority's operations over the next four years, providing direction for planning and implementation. This plan will guide the NHIA's activities, ensuring a coordinated approach to health insurance delivery in the region.

The plan's major priorities include improving service delivery, strengthening the long-term sustainability of the National Health Insurance Scheme, and accelerating digital transformation. Promoting institutional excellence through accountability, transparency, good governance, and staff capacity development are also key objectives. These priorities will guide the NHIA's operations, ensuring the scheme's efficiency and effectiveness.

The Deputy Director of Research, Mr Collins Akuamoah, highlighted the plan's role in guiding the Authority's planning, budgeting, and implementation activities from 2026 to 2029. He urged staff to align their annual Programmes of Work and Personal Performance Agreements with the strategic priorities. This alignment will ensure that the NHIA's objectives are translated into measurable actions.

The NHIA is committed to advancing Universal Health Coverage by improving access to quality healthcare, reviewing benefit tariffs, and increasing membership enrolment and retention. Strengthening quality assurance systems and controlling claims costs are also critical to the scheme's efficiency and financial sustainability. These measures will ensure the continued provision of healthcare coverage to members.

Participants were encouraged to study the strategic document carefully and take ownership of its implementation. The dissemination programme served as an important step towards ensuring that the NHIA's four-year strategic priorities are understood and reflected in day-to-day operations. This will enable the regional and district offices to execute their responsibilities effectively.

The successful implementation of the strategic plan will depend on the commitment and collaboration of all stakeholders. The NHIA's efforts to strengthen health insurance delivery in the Volta Region will contribute to the overall goal of achieving Universal Health Coverage in Ghana. The plan's effectiveness will be monitored and evaluated to ensure its objectives are met.
