The Ngounié province in Gabon has strengthened its industrial potential with the recent inauguration of a new sawmill by the provincial governor, Francis Oyinamono. The sawmill, owned by Ongouni Transformation Bois (OTB), is located in the village of Douya, near Mouila, and was inaugurated in the presence of local authorities. This development marks a significant milestone in the province's efforts to enhance its industrial capacity. The new sawmill is expected to contribute to the local economy through job creation and environmental sustainability.

The new sawmill, spanning 10 hectares, specializes in sawing, drying, and conditioning wood products, including planks and beams. The facility aims to produce 10,000 cubic meters of wood products per month, with ambitions to increase production to 15,000 cubic meters in the future. The sawmill's equipment includes five head saws, edge banders, boilers, and 12 drying chambers with a capacity of 200 cubic meters each. The company's management has emphasized its commitment to sourcing materials from certified suppliers.

According to Brice-Yvon Maleckou, deputy general manager of OTB, the sawmill's equipment is state-of-the-art and designed to ensure efficient production. Jack Wu, general manager of OTB, highlighted the significance of the new sawmill in the company's development strategy. He emphasized that the facility will contribute to the local economy by creating jobs, providing training to workers, and adhering to environmental regulations.

The sawmill currently employs 180 people, with plans to increase its workforce by introducing a second shift, both day and night. This expansion is expected to create additional direct and indirect jobs. Karl Ponce Koumba Nzengui, head of personnel at OTB, confirmed that the company is committed to providing employment opportunities for local residents.

Régis Ndondzi Mouahoudi, provincial director of labor, emphasized the importance of adhering to labor laws and regulations, particularly with regards to contracts and working hours. The inauguration of the new sawmill has been hailed as a significant boost to the local wood transformation industry and the economic development of Ngounié province. The facility is expected to play a crucial role in promoting sustainable forestry practices and contributing to the province's economic growth.

The development is part of a broader effort to promote economic diversification and industrialization in Gabon.
