The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) has appointed Brenda Seember Shima, a journalist from TVC Communication, as a media officer for the Super Falcons, effective October 1, 2026. This appointment was made through a letter dated October 2, 2026, signed by Tajudeen Tiamiyu, Acting Director of Administration, on behalf of the NFF General Secretary. Shima will assume her responsibilities immediately and report to the Deputy General Secretary, who also serves as Director of Communication.

Shima's appointment comes during a significant period of transition within the NFF, following the resignation of former president Ibrahim Musa Gusau, General Secretary Mohammed Sanusi, and members of the federation's Executive Committee in August. These resignations were prompted by scrutiny of Nigeria's recent football performances, including the Super Eagles' failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the Super Falcons' failure to secure a place at the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup.

The NFF's leadership changes have attracted the attention of international football authorities, with FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) beginning an assessment of the situation within the NFF in September. This assessment focuses on the legal, governance, administrative, and electoral implications of the developments, with the goal of establishing a roadmap for reforms and the restoration of a substantive leadership structure within the federation.

Despite the uncertainty at the administrative level, football activities and preparations involving the national teams have continued. The NFF's latest appointment of Shima comes as the federation operates under an interim administrative arrangement while broader questions surrounding its governance are being addressed. Shima will join the Super Falcons immediately, as the team prepares for their 2028 Olympic Games qualifying campaign.

The Super Falcons are scheduled to face Comoros in a two-legged second-round qualifying tie, with both matches taking place in Nigeria at the Remo Stars Stadium, Ikenne-Remo. The first leg is set for October 9, while the return fixture is scheduled for October 13. The team received a bye into the second round due to their ranking, while Comoros advanced after a comprehensive aggregate victory over Sudan in the opening round.

The NFF has also made changes to the technical leadership of the women's national team, appointing former Super Eagles head coach Augustine Eguavoen as interim coach for the October Olympic qualifiers. Eguavoen is being assisted by Christopher Danjuma, while former Super Falcons defender Ayisat Yusuf and former Super Eagles goalkeeper trainer Olatunji Baruwa are also part of the technical team.

As media officer, Shima will operate within the federation's communication framework and support media engagement surrounding the national team. Her immediate deployment to camp will enable her to work directly with the players, technical crew, and team officials as preparations for the Olympic qualifiers intensify. The appointment letter makes clear that her reporting line will be to the Deputy General Secretary and Director of Communication for necessary briefings.
