On October 6, several speakers at the United Nations in New York praised the increasing international support for Morocco's autonomy plan for Western Sahara. They noted that UN Security Council Resolution 2797 has strengthened the position of the Moroccan initiative and made it a reference framework for the political process under UN auspices.

Miguel Angel Rodriguez Mackay, former Peruvian Foreign Minister, stated that the international community is increasingly considering Morocco's autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as a political solution to the regional conflict over Western Sahara. He mentioned that over two-thirds of UN member states now support the Moroccan initiative.

Rodriguez Mackay also noted that UN Security Council Resolution 2797 has established this dynamic by adopting the autonomy plan as a reference framework for continuing the political process under the exclusive auspices of the UN. He added that over two-thirds of the international community agree to support the autonomy plan under Moroccan sovereignty as the only political solution to the regional conflict.

Ana Ruivos, a Portuguese legal expert, highlighted that Resolution 2797 has strengthened the support of the UN Security Council for Morocco's autonomy initiative. She called on the parties to the regional conflict to continue talks based on this plan to reach a final and acceptable political solution.

Ruivos also noted that European support for the Moroccan initiative was reinforced during the 15th session of the EU-Morocco Partnership Council. The European side welcomed the adoption of Resolution 2797 and reaffirmed the EU's commitment to supporting the UN framework for settling the conflict.

Abdoulatif Aïdara, a Senegalese expert in geopolitics, considered that Resolution 2797 marked a turning point in the way the UN handles the Western Sahara issue. He noted that the successive recognitions of Moroccan sovereignty over Western Sahara and the withdrawal of recognition of the separatist entity reflect a profound shift in the positions of the international community.

The speakers at the Fourth Committee meeting concluded that UN Security Council Resolution 2797 has strengthened the international dynamic in support of Morocco's autonomy plan. They considered it a path to reaching a lasting and acceptable political solution to the conflict over Western Sahara.
