Newly elected National Chairman of Ghana's New Patriotic Party (NPP), John Boadu, has pledged to lead the party with humility, consultation, and a commitment to reconciliation. This commitment comes as the party begins preparations for the 2028 general elections. Mr. Boadu emphasized that his election is not a victory for an individual or a particular group but a mandate for the entire NPP to unite and rebuild its structures.

Mr. Boadu extended a hand of friendship to other contenders in the chairmanship race, stating that their ideas, experience, and commitment remained valuable to the party. He outlined his plan to work closely with various party members and groups, including the General Secretary, national officers, Regional and Constituency executives, the Council of Elders, External Branches, Patrons, Members of Parliament, TESCON, voluntary groups, communicators, and media.

In a statement issued on Monday, October 5, Mr. Boadu reiterated his commitment to serving with humility, leading through consultation, and promoting reconciliation. He emphasized that together, the party will rebuild trust, restore confidence, and bring back the winning ways of the NPP in 2028. This vision follows his election as National Chairman at the NPP’s National Delegates Conference held at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi on Saturday, October 3.

Mr. Boadu secured 2,888 votes to defeat former Energy Minister Boakye Kyerematen Agyarko, who polled 2,408 votes, while former National Chairman Paul Afoko obtained 790 votes. Sammy Crabbe, who withdrew from the race and endorsed Mr. Boadu before voting, received 41 votes. The election brought together more than 7,000 delegates to elect national executives who will steer the party for the next four years and lead its efforts to return to power in 2028.

Mr. Boadu succeeds Stephen Ayesu Ntim, who did not seek re-election. Other newly elected executives include Justin Frimpong Kodua, who retained his position as General Secretary, Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover as National Organiser, Mavis Hawa Koomson as National Women’s Organiser, Abanga Fuseini Yakubu as National Youth Organiser, and Alfred Kojo Thompson as National Treasurer.

According to Mr. Boadu, the new leadership must focus on rebuilding the party’s structures, promoting discipline, and making members feel valued and heard. He identified reconnecting with the youth and restoring the NPP’s presence in tertiary institutions as key areas that require attention as the party prepares for the next general election.

As the NPP prepares for the 2028 general elections, Mr. Boadu's leadership will be crucial in uniting the party and enhancing its electoral prospects. With his experience as former General Secretary and his recent election as National Chairman, Mr. Boadu is expected to play a pivotal role in steering the party towards success.
