The new Dschang cliffside route was officially opened on October 2, 2026, by Cameroon's Minister of Public Works, Emmanuel Nganou Djoumessi, on behalf of the Head of State. The 367-meter-long infrastructure, rebuilt at a height of 35.4 meters, aims to provide a safer and more stable transportation route for the local population. Located in the Menoua department of West Cameroon, the route is a crucial link between Dschang and Santchou, as well as the regions of West, Littoral, and North-West.

The construction of the new route was necessitated by a deadly landslide that occurred on November 5, 2024, which resulted in multiple fatalities. The project, valued at nearly four billion FCFA, was undertaken by China First Highway Engineering Corporation (CFHEC) and its technical partners. The new route features a series of technical improvements, including a reinforced drainage system and modern hydraulic structures to manage water sources and prevent soil erosion.

The new alignment of the route has been shifted 100 meters away from the previous path, reducing the risk of landslides and rockfalls. Engineers used geotextile materials and synthetic fabrics to durably stabilize the soil through multiple layers. The bitumen-paved route is designed to provide a smooth and safe transportation experience for motorists. The opening ceremony was attended by several high-ranking officials, including the Secretary General of the Central Committee of the Democratic Rally of the Cameroonian People, Jean Nkuété.

According to Minister Nganou Djoumessi, the new route is a "technological jewel" and a source of pride for the local population. The infrastructure is expected to boost economic activity and improve connectivity between the regions. The project's success is seen as a significant achievement for the Cameroonian government, which has prioritized infrastructure development and road safety in recent years.

The Dschang cliffside route is a vital transportation artery, connecting the West region to the Littoral and North-West regions. The new route is expected to reduce travel times and improve access to essential services, including healthcare and education. Local residents have expressed relief and gratitude for the new infrastructure, which is seen as a major improvement over the previous route.

The Cameroonian government has invested heavily in infrastructure development, with a focus on improving road safety and connectivity. The Dschang cliffside route project is part of a broader strategy to upgrade the country's transportation network and promote economic growth. The government has worked closely with international partners, including China, to deliver the project.

The new Dschang cliffside route is a significant milestone in Cameroon's infrastructure development, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the local economy and population. The project's success will likely be closely monitored by the government and the public, as it sets a precedent for future infrastructure projects in the country.
