Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire, has welcomed two new Chinese car brands, Wuling and Baojun, which have introduced electric and hybrid vehicles to the local market. A showroom was inaugurated on October 1, 2026, by Rimco Motors, a company that has partnered with the brands. The event brought together key stakeholders, including representatives from Wuling, who traveled from China for the occasion. The new showroom offers a diverse range of vehicles, including thermal, hybrid, and electric models.

The new vehicles on offer include utility vehicles, SUVs, and sedans, catering to different consumer needs. Mathieu Lemaire, responsible for the brand at Rimco Motors, highlighted that the offered vehicles cover various engine technologies, from thermal to electric and hybrid. He emphasized that electric vehicles require less mechanical maintenance and lower energy consumption costs. Hybrid vehicles, on the other hand, combine a thermal engine with an electric motor, providing a more efficient and environmentally friendly option.

However, the development of electric and hybrid vehicle technologies in Côte d'Ivoire depends on the availability of necessary infrastructure, particularly charging equipment. To address this challenge, Rimco Motors plans to collaborate with specialists to install charging stations in homes and businesses. This strategic move aims to support the growth of electric and hybrid vehicle adoption in the country.

Aline Bader, Director of Sales and Marketing at Rimco Motors, noted that the introduction of Wuling and Baojun aligns with the evolving Ivoirian automotive market and the diversification of mobility technologies. The company's efforts to expand its offerings reflect the growing demand for eco-friendly and sustainable transportation solutions.

Aurélien Glay, Director of Mobility at Yeshi Group, highlighted the group's extensive activities in the automotive sector across Côte d'Ivoire and several West and Central African countries. The partnership between Rimco Motors and Wuling is expected to strengthen the group's presence in the region and promote the adoption of electric and hybrid vehicles.

Yang Yu, representative of Wuling, expressed satisfaction with the brand's entry into the Ivoirian market and the strengthening of its cooperation with Rimco Motors. The launch of Wuling and Baojun in Côte d'Ivoire marks a significant milestone in the country's automotive industry, as it continues to evolve and adapt to changing consumer needs and technological advancements.

The introduction of these new Chinese car brands and their electric and hybrid vehicles presents opportunities for growth and development in Côte d'Ivoire's automotive sector. However, challenges related to infrastructure, vehicle maintenance, and user adaptation will need to be addressed to ensure the long-term success of these initiatives.
