The newly enskinned Bunkporok-Baat of Bunkpurugu, His Royal Highness Melchizedek Musah Jamung II, has appealed for unity and peace in the Bimoba traditional area. He said lasting development in Bunkpurugu would be difficult without peace and cooperation among families, clans, and communities. Jamung II was enskinned on October 2, and his leadership will focus on reconciliation, education, youth development, and improved infrastructure.
Jamung II, also known as Wani-kobik Kan Ber Yambor Foar Ni, said his enskinment should not be viewed as a personal victory but as an opportunity to serve the people and strengthen their customs, traditions, and unity. He called on chiefs, elders, political and religious leaders, women’s groups, youth organisations, and Bimoba citizens at home and abroad to support efforts to restore peace and unity in the area.
The chief pledged to work with stakeholders to improve access to education and create more opportunities for young people. He said his administration would also advocate for better roads, water supply, healthcare facilities, and support for farmers, describing agriculture as a key pillar of the local economy. This move aims to address some of the community's pressing needs and foster development.
Jamung II further appealed to the government to provide adequate security support to protect the peace during the transition and beyond. He expressed trust in the government to help protect the peace they all yearn for. The chief specifically appealed to the North East Regional Coordinating Council, the North East Regional Security Council (REGSEC), and the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District Security Council (DISEC) to support efforts to maintain peace and public order.
The chief expressed gratitude to the Jamong Royal Family for entrusting him with the position and urged residents to work together towards a peaceful and prosperous Bunkpurugu. He emphasized that reconciliation, peace, and unity would be central to his leadership as he works with stakeholders to advance development in the Bimoba traditional area.
Jamung II's call for unity and peace comes after a protracted chieftaincy dispute in the area. His leadership aims to bring together various groups and individuals to work towards a common goal of development and progress. The chief's enskinment is seen as an opportunity for the community to come together and work towards a brighter future.
The Bunkpurugu community is now looking forward to seeing the implementation of Jamung II's plans and initiatives. His focus on education, youth development, and infrastructure improvement is expected to have a positive impact on the community. With the support of stakeholders, Jamung II is optimistic that his leadership will bring about a new era of peace and development in Bunkpurugu.
