The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has cautioned electricity consumers in Ghana against illegal connections, meter-related offences, and unauthorised reconnections. Engineer Eugene Odoi Addo, Sunyani Area Manager, stated that offenders will face the full force of the law. He made the remarks during an interview at the NEDCo premises in Sunyani as part of Customer Service Week. The celebration allowed customers to engage directly with NEDCo officials and seek solutions to challenges affecting their electricity supply and services.

Customers raised concerns about difficulties and delays in acquiring meters after submitting applications. NEDCo staff used the occasion to explain the processes involved in meter acquisition, address customers' concerns, and educate them on responsible electricity consumption, billing, and proper channels for resolving service-related challenges. The company also extended its education campaign to traders and market women at the Nana Bosoma Market in Sunyani. NEDCo personnel distributed educational flyers and sensitised consumers on electricity safety, responsible usage, and the dangers associated with illegal connections.

Engineer Odoi Addo expressed satisfaction with the growing use of NEDCo's established customer-service channels to report complaints and seek redress. However, he noted that some customers still bypass the company's internal complaint-resolution mechanisms and proceed directly to the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC). He advised customers to first exhaust NEDCo's internal processes before escalating unresolved matters to the regulator.

Engineer Odoi Addo urged customers to use NEDCo's internal processes before escalating issues to PURC. He stated that the company remained committed to resolving customer complaints and ensuring that consumers had accessible avenues through which their concerns could be addressed. The company is intensifying efforts to identify and prosecute individuals who engage in activities that undermine the integrity of the electricity distribution network.

Engineer Odoi Addo issued a strong warning to individuals involved in illegal electricity activities, including the unauthorised sale of meters, illegal reconnections, and other acts that compromise the company's network. He advised them to desist from such activities, warning that they would face the full rigours of the law if apprehended. According to him, such activities not only deprive NEDCo of revenue but also expose communities to serious safety risks and can damage electricity infrastructure.

NEDCo has already arrested and sent some persons involved in illegal activities to court. The company will continue to take action against those engaging in such activities. The Customer Service Week celebration provided an opportunity for NEDCo to engage with customers and address their concerns. The event was held under the theme "The Extra Mile."

The company's efforts aim to promote responsible electricity consumption and ensure a safe and reliable electricity supply. By educating customers on the dangers of illegal connections and the proper channels for resolving service-related challenges, NEDCo seeks to improve its services and build trust with its customers. Key issues addressed included the importance of using official complaint channels and the risks associated with illegal electricity activities.
