A sense of excitement and mobilization has gripped Tizi-Ouzou University Hospital (CHU) in Algeria as it prepares to circumcise nearly 800 children. The hospital, located in the heart of the city, has been transformed into a colorful and lively atmosphere. Women accompanying their children, dressed in white and red tunics, are celebrating one of the significant events in a boy's life. The hospital has been bustling with activity since Sunday.

The hospital has put in place substantial human and material resources to ensure the operation runs smoothly. Dr. Abderrahmane Nemmar, Director of Medical and Paramedical Activities, is coordinating the operation. He stated that the operation is proceeding in excellent conditions and will likely continue beyond the Eid celebrations, exceeding the initial number of 800 children with new requests received at the last minute.

On the first day, 13 children, taken care of socially by the "Espoir de l'enfant" association, were successfully circumcised in the emergency surgical ward's operating block. A well-equipped team of surgeons, doctors, and nurses was on standby, awaiting the arrival of the children. The medical staff ensured the cleanliness of the premises, surgical tools, and equipment before admitting the children for the procedure.

On Tuesday, the number of children surged to 70, all from the Mâatkas region, brought in by the Algerian Red Crescent. Two services were fully requisitioned to guarantee the required standards for 70 surgical procedures in just half a day. According to medical guidelines, surgical operations, especially for vulnerable individuals, are not recommended in the evening.

Dr. Nemmar revealed that the hospital has registered nearly 800 children for circumcision across various services. He emphasized that the hospital has been mobilizing resources for several days to ensure a successful operation, which involves the entire family. The hospital is working with associations, APCs, and the Algerian Red Crescent to make the event a joyful and secure experience for the children.

The operation is expected to peak on Monday, with 132 children and their families arriving at the hospital. Dr. Nemmar reassured that each child will be circumcised by a multidisciplinary and complete medical team, using a special and sterile circumcision kit. On Monday, 103 other children will be taken care of in the operating blocks of three hospital services.

The children being circumcised include those taken care of socially by Tafat Redjaouna (13) and 90 others by the Tizi-Ouzou APC. These children will be distributed evenly between the visceral surgery and traumatology services. The hospital's efforts aim to provide a safe and festive experience for the children and their families.
