The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has conducted a series of nationwide operations, resulting in the arrest of multiple suspects and the seizure of large amounts of drugs, as well as weapons and ammunition. Among those arrested was an 83-year-old grandmother, Mrs. Uloma Uchechi Sunday, who was caught with Methamphetamine and Colorado hidden around her waist under a wrapper at her home in Abia State.
This is not the first time Mrs. Uloma Uchechi Sunday has been arrested for drug-related offenses. On May 17, 2025, she was arrested at the same location with her 32-year-old daughter, Chisom Uchechi, and they had 50 grams of Methamphetamine, 522 grams of skunk, 260 grams of fresh cannabis, and 12 grams of tramadol. Both admitted their guilt and received sentences of 12 months in prison or the option to pay a fine of N200,000 each, which they paid before being released.
In another operation, NDLEA officers worked together with the Nigeria Customs Service to apprehend a South African national named Gebashe Sithandiwe Jessie at Port Harcourt International Airport in Omagwa, Rivers State. She was caught with 30 packages of ‘Thai Loud’, a very strong cannabis strain totaling 32.74 kilograms hidden in two travel bags. The suspect had flown from Thailand to Doha on Qatar Airways flight QR1431 and confessed that she had previously trafficked drugs through other African countries.
NDLEA agents also made significant seizures at the Import Shed of Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA) in Ikeja, Lagos, where they found 354,000 tablets of Tapentadol (250mg) weighing 307.20kg inside nine cartons that arrived from Pakistan on a Royal Air Maroc flight. Additionally, officers seized six ‘Ghana-Must-Go’ bags containing 70 packages of synthetic cannabis (Colorado) weighing 75.90kg that came from the United Kingdom.
Further operations led to the arrest of several suspects, including John Edrah, 54, Taofiq Ajibola, 54, and Adetunji Adebayo, along with Kazeem Damola Dosunmu, 48. Ajibola mentioned that the shipment was sent by a UK-based associate named Lukman Sa’idu, while Dosunmu traced his package back to another UK source called Yusuf.
In other parts of the country, NDLEA officers carried out raids that resulted in significant seizures. A raid in Iyala Nkun village, Ikom LGA, Cross River State led to the arrest of Adama Inuwa, 46, who had 181 bags of cannabis sativa weighing 1,100kg and an additional 17.15kg of cannabis seeds. In Edo State, law enforcement agents stopped a Toyota Camry transporting 1,049 blocks of compressed cannabis weighing 702.83 kg and arrested three suspects.
The NDLEA operations also led to seizures in Ondo State, where officers seized 29 bags of cannabis weighing 290 kg from Happy Endurance, 21 years old, in Akure, and 35 bags weighing 351 kg from Tunde Adebayo, 42 years old, in Oba-Ile.
