Mr Fohad Agbenyadzi, Eastern Regional Deputy Youth Organiser of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has announced his bid for the Deputy National Youth Organiser position. He made this declaration in Koforidua during an engagement with youth and deputy youth organisers from across the Eastern Region. This move is part of his efforts to reduce the youth wing's dependence on individual financiers and build sustainable internal sources of funding.
To achieve this goal, Mr Agbenyadzi proposed the establishment of "Youth Wing in Ghana Limited". This entity would undertake legitimate commercial activities through competitive tendering and project execution. Part of the proceeds would be used to finance party activities, enabling the party to mobilise its own resources rather than depend heavily on financiers. This approach would also mitigate the influence of financiers who may demand appointments and contracts in return for their support.
In addition to the proposed company, Mr Agbenyadzi suggested establishing a youth insurance company. This insurance company would provide welfare support to youth organisers, including life insurance and assistance with medical expenses arising from accidents. By encouraging party members to patronise the company's services, the youth wing would generate additional resources to support its activities.
Mr Agbenyadzi emphasised that strengthening the welfare and financial capacity of constituency-level youth organisers is essential to building a stronger grassroots base. He noted that when youth organisers at the constituency level are financially constrained, they cannot deliver optimal results. Therefore, it is crucial to adequately resource them to improve their effectiveness.
The NDC Deputy Youth Organiser also assured party members that the new leadership would engage government appointees to address their concerns and expectations. While acknowledging the challenges inherited from the previous administration, he expressed confidence that conditions would improve under the new leadership.
Mr Agbenyadzi pledged that "things will never be the same" under the new leadership. He encouraged NDC youth to work together to achieve their goals and build a stronger party. This commitment to positive change is part of his campaign for the Deputy National Youth Organiser position.
The proposal by Mr Agbenyadzi is part of a broader effort to reform the NDC's youth wing and make it more self-sustaining. The Eastern Regional Deputy Youth Organiser's vision for the future of the party's youth wing has been well-received by many party members, who see it as a way to build a stronger and more effective organisation.
