The National Council of Parents-Teacher Associations (NCPTA-Ghana) has confirmed that the approved Parents-Teacher Association (PTA) dues and levies remain GH¢200 per parent per semester. This amount is divided into GH¢50 in PTA dues and GH¢150 as a levy. The dues support administrative activities, while the levy finances projects undertaken by PTAs in schools. Christian Aikins Atsu, President of the NCPTA-Ghana, made this clarification in response to concerns over alleged unauthorized and excessive collections by some PTAs.
According to Mr. Atsu, PTAs seeking to collect amounts above the approved GH¢200 must first obtain clearance from the national leadership of the association. This decision was reached at an Extraordinary National Conference of the NCPTA-Ghana held at the Ghana National Association of Teachers (GNAT) Hall from August 25 to 27, 2026. The conference aimed to address issues related to PTA dues and levies, ensuring uniformity and transparency across the country.
Mr. Atsu also cautioned PTA executives against allowing school heads to influence them to use unauthorized receipts or NCPTA receipt books to collect money from parents. He warned that such practices could undermine the credibility of PTA executives and damage the image of the association. The NCPTA-Ghana President urged PTA executives to comply strictly with the approved charges and ensure that every payment is properly receipted.
Furthermore, Mr. Atsu encouraged parents and guardians asked to pay amounts above the approved figure to seek clarification from the appropriate PTA executives.
