The Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) has introduced a unified training doctrine with the unveiling of its first-ever Training Manual and standardized professional Course Badges. This development aims to strengthen uniformity, professionalism, and capacity development across the Service's training architecture. The new manual replaces the 2019 training manual, which has been comprehensively reviewed to reflect contemporary realities and emerging professional demands.
The new Training Manual provides a unified framework for training across various cadres, disciplines, and specialized areas of the Service. This will ensure greater consistency in the delivery of instructions nationwide. The manual's review was necessitated by the need for a single, contemporary training resource that reflects the changing demands of correctional administration and practice.
The Controller-General of Corrections, Sylvester Ndidi Nwakuche, unveiled the new manual and Course Badges. He commended the Manual Review Committee and all personnel who contributed to the development of the new Unified Training Manual and standardized Course Badges. Nwakuche described the initiative as a landmark achievement that would further strengthen professionalism, institutional identity, and uniformity in personnel training across the Service.
Various Course Badges were unveiled, including the Advanced Command Course Badge, Command Course Badge, Chief Superintendent of Corrections Course Badge, and Assistant Superintendent of Corrections Course Badge. These badges symbolize professional identity and accomplishment, carrying enduring prestige. The Controller-General was decorated with one of the newly unveiled course badges during the ceremony.
Deputy Controllers-General were also decorated with the Advanced Command Course badge in recognition of their professional advancement. The Deputy Controller-General in charge of Training and Staff Development, DCG Olanrewaju Amoran, explained that the Unified Training Manual will serve as a common reference point for instructors and trainees, promoting consistency in the interpretation and delivery of course content.
The Chairman of the Manual Review Committee, DCG Ado Sale, emphasized that the badges are professional distinctions earned through prescribed training and formally conferred by the Commandants of the Service's training institutions. He stressed that the badges are not ceremonial accessories or items to be purchased from open markets.
The unveiling of the Unified Training Manual and standardized Course Badges represents another significant step in the Service's ongoing reforms aimed at strengthening institutional capacity, promoting training excellence, and building a modern correctional workforce.
