The Ningo-Prampram District Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) recently organized a sensitization program for over 30 women in the area. The program aimed to educate the women on the importance of the rule of law and the need to help fight corruption in their communities. The event brought together queen mothers, hairdressers, seamstresses, traders, and other women groups to discuss the effects of corruption and the role of citizens in promoting accountable governance.

According to Mr. Oppong Mensah, District Director of NCCE, Ningo-Prampram, the program was crucial in addressing the issue of corruption, which he believes is affecting the development of the country. He noted that corruption and corrupt practices have gradually eaten into the social fabric of communities, stressing that urgent measures are needed to curb the menace. Mr. Mensah also emphasized that citizens in various sectors of the economy are involved in corrupt practices in the performance of their duties.

Mr. Mensah further noted that corruption is not only synonymous with politicians but is a practice that can be found across different sections of society. He cited examples of artisans, drivers, passengers, public servants, and religious leaders, among others, who are involved in corrupt practices. This, he believes, is affecting the progress and development of the country. He therefore called on the participants to respect the rule of law and report suspected corrupt practices to the appropriate authorities for the necessary action to be taken.

The NCCE district director urged the women to use their influence within their families and communities to promote integrity, accountability, and respect for the law. He encouraged them to take an active role in promoting good governance and to report any corrupt practices they may encounter. The participants were given the opportunity to ask questions, share personal experiences, and make suggestions on measures that could help address corruption and strengthen adherence to the rule of law.

The engagement formed part of efforts by the NCCE to educate citizens on their civic responsibilities and encourage active participation in promoting good governance. The program was well-received by the participants, who expressed their appreciation for the initiative. They also pledged to use the knowledge gained to promote integrity and accountability in their communities.

The program was sponsored by the European Union, the Ministry of Finance, GIZ, and the German Consulate. This support enabled the NCCE to reach out to the women in Ningo-Prampram and educate them on the importance of the rule of law and the fight against corruption. The NCCE plans to replicate similar sensitization activities in other communities within the district.

The sensitization program is expected to have a positive impact on the community, as the women who participated are expected to share their knowledge with others and promote integrity and accountability. The NCCE's efforts to educate citizens on their civic responsibilities and encourage active participation in promoting good governance are crucial in the fight against corruption.
