The National Secretariat of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) has constituted a nine-member credentials committee to oversee the preparations and conduct of the Association’s forthcoming 2026 Triennial National Delegates Conference. The conference, scheduled to hold in November 2026, will see the election of a new executive to pilot the affairs of NAWOJ. This move is aimed at ensuring a smooth and transparent electoral process.
The Committee was constituted at the just concluded NAWOJ National Executive Council (NEC) meeting in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi state. The NAWOJ National Chairperson, Aishatu Ibrahim, charged members to discharge their responsibilities with fairness, impartiality and a high sense of professionalism. She emphasized the importance of adhering strictly to the Constitution of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and other relevant regulations guiding the Association.
The Committee was formally inaugurated by the National President of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Comrade Alhassan Yahya Abdullahi. He charged members to carry out their assignment with the utmost integrity, patriotism and professionalism, while ensuring that the electoral process is free, fair, credible and transparent. Abdullahi commended NAWOJ for its commitment to democratic principles and urged the Committee to be guided by the Constitution of the NUJ.
The nine-member Credentials Committee comprises: Comrade Rajab Mohammed, chairman; Comrade Nsibiet John, member; Comrade Maureen Sheyin, member representing Zone A; Comrade Abisola Ariwodola, member representing Zone B; Comrade Stephanie Ude, Member representing Zone C; Comrade Grace Akwe Ogbayi, member representing Zone D; Comrade Rashida Yusuf, member, representing Zone E; Comrade Grace Orumieyefa, member representing Zone F; as well as Comrade Farida Abubakar, member.
The national secretariat called on all members and stakeholders of the Association to give the Committee the necessary cooperation and support to enable it discharge its mandate effectively. This will ensure that the Committee can carry out its responsibilities without hitches and that the 2026 triennial delegates conference is a success.
The NAWOJ National Secretary, Wasilah Ladan, issued a press statement after the inauguration of the Committee. The statement noted that the Committee's task is crucial in ensuring the integrity, unity and credibility of NAWOJ. The Committee's work will be guided by the principles of fairness, transparency and professionalism.
