The Nigerian Association of Technologists in Engineering (NATE) has chartered its Berger-Mowe and Ilupeju Chapters, with the President, Engr. Dominic Udoatan, urging engineering technologists to uphold professional standards, ethical conduct, and competence. The chartering ceremonies were held at different locations, including the Redeemer's College of Technology and Management (RECTEM) in Mowe, Ogun, and the Federal Institute of Industrial Research Oshodi (FIIRO). Udoatan emphasized the importance of collaboration, idea exchange, and technological advancement for national development.
At the Mowe ceremony, Udoatan stated that the chapter's establishment would strengthen collaboration among technologists and provide a platform for exchanging ideas to promote technological advancement and national development. He stressed that technologists must demonstrate professional relevance through competence, innovation, integrity, and commitment to national development. Udoatan also noted that NATE is committed to tackling quackery and maintaining professional standards among its members.
The Special Guest of Honour and Rector of RECTEM, Mrs. Oladunni Izobo-Martin, emphasized the importance of professionalism and technical education in achieving sustainable industrial development. She stated that no nation can develop or achieve meaningful industrial growth without a strong and competent technical workforce. Izobo-Martin also stressed that technical expertise is essential to various sectors, including construction, manufacturing, electricity, and telecommunications.
Izobo-Martin added that Nigeria's aspirations for industrialization, infrastructure development, local manufacturing, and technological self-reliance would remain difficult to achieve without deliberate investment in technical skills. She urged members to uphold professional standards, integrity, competence, accountability, safety consciousness, and respect for professional standards. The chartering of the chapter marks a renewed commitment to professional excellence among members.
The Chairman of NATE, Lagos State Branch, Engr. Victor Afolayan, described the chartering as a significant milestone in expanding the association's membership and strengthening engineering technology. He noted that the strategic importance of Berger and Mowe made the establishment of the chapter particularly significant. Afolayan urged members to prioritize membership mobilization, continuous professional development, and a cordial relationship with the Lagos State Branch.
The Chairman of the newly chartered Berger-Mowe Chapter, Engr. Temitope Lanipekun, pledged the chapter's commitment to NATE's ethics and code of conduct. He stated that the chapter's establishment would make participation easier for technologists residing in Redemption City and its environs. Lanipekun also emphasized the need to enlighten technologists in various departments about NATE and its benefits.
Engr. Raphael Ogunfolajimi, pioneer Chairman of the Oshodi/Ilupeju Chapter, prioritized membership expansion and professional development. He expressed gratitude for the opportunity to lead the newly established chapter and emphasized the importance of professional registration and recognition.
