The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has congratulated Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut on his appointment as the 14th Registrar and Chief Executive Officer of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC). In a statement signed by its Secretary General, Oladimeji Uthman, NANS described Dangut's appointment as a recognition of his years of service and commitment to improving examination administration. This appointment comes at a crucial time for education and examination assessment across West Africa.

NANS praised Dangut as an experienced education administrator, scholar, examination expert, and technocrat who has contributed significantly to the development of credible examinations in Nigeria and the sub-region. Dangut joined WAEC in 1998, after beginning his career at St Louis College, Jos, in 1994. Throughout his career, he has worked in various areas of WAEC, including test development, examination security, branch management, and zonal coordination.

Before his appointment as Registrar, Dangut served as Head of the WAEC Nigeria National Office from October 2023 to September 2026. During his tenure, he introduced and supported several technological improvements, including the Computer-Based WASSCE, serialization of question papers, Digital Electronic Marking System, Digital Certificate Portal, WAEC E-Study Platform, and Digital Records Archive. These initiatives demonstrated his commitment to using technology to enhance examination administration while protecting the credibility and integrity of WAEC examinations.

Dangut's experience and contributions to education extend beyond WAEC. He has served on the governing boards of the Nigerian Educational Research and Development Council, Joint Universities Preliminary Examinations Board, Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, and Grange Educational Foundation. Additionally, he represented WAEC at the Joint Consultative Committee on Education and the National Council on Education.

NANS urged the new WAEC Registrar to continue improving examination systems, strengthening examination credibility, and ensuring that the interests of students remain central to the council's activities.
