New Patriotic Party National Organiser Henry Nana Boakye, popularly known as Nana B, has sought to distinguish his relatively young age from his political experience, arguing that his lengthy and uninterrupted involvement in the party has taken him through virtually every layer of its organisational structure. Speaking on Adom FM’s Dwaso Nsem ahead of the NPP’s national executive elections, Nana Boakye said that although he considers himself the youngest contender in the Vice Chairperson contest, his political association with the party stretches back 26 years.
Nana Boakye explained that his involvement with the NPP commenced when he was 19 years old, shortly after completing his secondary education at Prempeh College. He said his earliest formal participation came during the 2000 general election, when he worked as a polling agent for the party. Reflecting on the length of his political involvement, he said, “I may be the youngest, but I have served the NPP continuously, uninterrupted, for 26 years.”
According to Nana Boakye, his subsequent political journey has encompassed responsibilities at the polling station, electoral area, constituency, regional and national levels, giving him exposure to different aspects of the party’s internal organisation and grassroots operations. He recalled serving on two occasions as a polling station chairman and also occupying the position of electoral area chairman.
Nana Boakye also highlighted his involvement in the establishment of the Tertiary Students’ Confederacy Network, commonly known as TESCON, during his time at the School of Mines in Tarkwa, which is now the University of Mines and Technology. He said TESCON did not exist at the institution when he gained admission and that he joined several other students in establishing the organisation.
Nana Boakye formally announced his intention to contest for the position of National First Vice Chairman in July 2026, describing his 26 years of active participation in the NPP as an important part of his motivation for seeking a higher organisational responsibility. In his earlier declaration, he said the experience and lessons accumulated during his years of party service had prepared him to contribute to strengthening the NPP’s organisational structures and reconnecting with its grassroots membership.
For Nana Boakye, his prolonged involvement has exposed him to different periods in the NPP’s political history, including moments of electoral success as well as setbacks. He therefore presented his political background as one that has given him familiarity with the party’s development across several generations of leadership. “I have served the party at all levels. If we’re looking for someone who knows the rise and fall of the party, its victory and losses, I am the one,” he stated.
The NPP is scheduled to hold its national executive elections on Saturday, October 3, 2026. The party has confirmed that the elections will cover several national leadership positions, including the National Chairperson, Vice Chairpersons, General Secretary, National Treasurer, National Organiser, National Women’s Organiser, National Youth Organiser, National Nasara Organiser and National Communications Director.
