The District Chief Executive for Nabdam, Hon. Francis Tobig, has prioritized improving healthcare infrastructure and access to essential health services across the district since his appointment by President John Dramani Mahama. In an interview, Hon. Tobig highlighted several completed, ongoing, and planned interventions undertaken by the Nabdam District Assembly to enhance healthcare delivery. These initiatives aim to address the healthcare needs of the district's residents. Hon. Tobig emphasized the importance of these interventions in ensuring that residents have access to quality healthcare services.
One of the major interventions has been the expansion of the Nabdam District Health Directorate offices at Nangodi. The upgraded facility now has additional office space and a mini conference hall, enabling health officials to organize meetings and programs within the facility. A mechanized borehole has also been installed to provide a reliable water supply for staff and visitors. This upgrade has improved the working conditions for health officials and enhanced their ability to deliver services.
The Assembly has also expanded healthcare infrastructure at the community level. At Soliga, construction of a new Community-based Health Planning and Services (CHPS) compound is nearing completion, with finishing works ongoing ahead of its handover for public use. At the Gundug CHPS Compound, a new maternity block has been completed and handed over. The facility is already in use, supporting safe deliveries and community health screening activities carried out in collaboration with local stakeholders and the Member of Parliament.
The Assembly has addressed electricity challenges at some health facilities, connecting the Tindongo and Nyogbare CHPS compounds to the national electricity grid. This has enabled health workers to provide services beyond daylight hours, improving access to healthcare services for residents. Additionally, water supply has received attention, with mechanized water systems being developed for health facilities, including the Zogabre and Pitanga CHPS compounds.
The Assembly has planned five mechanized boreholes to serve key administrative offices and health facilities, including the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) Office, Ghana Education Service (GES) Office, GIPEC Office, Zogabre CHPS, and Pitanga CHPS. This initiative aims to improve access to clean water and sanitation facilities, which are essential for delivering quality healthcare services.
Sanitation is another area receiving attention, with plans in place for the construction of two 4-seater water closet toilet facilities and two 2-unit urinals at the Health Insurance and CNC facilities in Kongo. The Assembly has also worked with partners to bring health screening services closer to residents. Through collaboration with CENSUDI, the Assembly facilitated breast cancer screening exercises, while partnership with the Happy Child organization provided additional screening and treatment services for various health conditions.
Hon. Tobig stated that the interventions form part of a broader effort to improve healthcare delivery and ensure that residents of Nabdam have access to essential health services. He emphasized that the Assembly would continue to build on the progress made while pursuing additional initiatives to address healthcare needs across the district.
