Mwingi West Member of Parliament Charles Nguna has expressed concerns over the United Opposition's disorganisation, internal supremacy battles, and lack of a clear agenda for Kenyans. He urged Kenyans to prioritize leaders with proven development records rather than populist politicians making promises they may struggle to fulfill. Nguna, popularly known as CNN, made these remarks in a recent statement.
Nguna's comments come after the heckling of his former Wiper Party leader, Kalonzo Musyoka, during the launch of the Linda Mwananchi Movement. He described the opposition as "too confused" with no structures, mechanisms, or strategy to unseat President William Ruto. Nguna emphasized that this confusion is a sign of poor leadership that Kenyans cannot afford.
The second-term legislator praised President William Ruto's development record, citing significant infrastructure and social development projects in Mwingi West and Kitui County. These projects include the ongoing completion and upgrading of the Kwasiku–Migwani–Mbondoni Road, the Kiio Sports Academy, which is approximately 95% complete, and Thitani Technical Training Institute, whose construction has reached about 72%.
Nguna also highlighted rural electrification initiatives, including projects in Kithalaani village, aimed at connecting homes, schools, and health facilities to the national electricity grid. He emphasized that tangible development outcomes should form the basis of political leadership assessments, arguing that voters should focus on leaders whose performance can be measured against promises made to the electorate.
Nguna, who was elected on a Wiper Party ticket, announced months ago that he would seek re-election on the ruling United Democratic Alliance ticket. He remains optimistic about securing a third term in the 2027 General Election, expressing confidence in his support among voters. Nguna stated that his decision to work with the Kenya Kwanza administration has yielded tangible benefits for Mwingi West.
The MP's remarks carry significant political weight, given that Kitui County has become an important battleground in President William Ruto's efforts to expand his political influence in Ukambani ahead of the 2027 elections. Nguna affirmed that the voters are with him and that his support among them will guarantee his re-election.
Nguna's comments reflect his confidence in his relationship with the voters and his assessment of the opposition's chances in the upcoming elections. His stance also highlights the ongoing political dynamics in Kenya as leaders position themselves for the 2027 General Election.
