Mwayi Mpinganjira's life has been a testament to resilience and determination. Growing up in Malawi, she faced numerous challenges, including financial hardship and self-doubt. However, she refused to give up on her dreams. After completing her secondary education at St. Mary's Girls Secondary School in Zomba in 2010, Mwayi attempted to enter the University of Malawi but failed the entrance examinations. Undeterred, she enrolled in a six-month diploma programme in Human Resources Management.

Mwayi's life took a devastating turn in 2014 when her father passed away, leaving her as the firstborn of five children to fend for her family's financial security. With relatives failing to honour their commitments to support her education, Mwayi was forced to abandon her college studies. She then turned to making and selling samosas to help her family survive. Despite the struggles, Mwayi remained determined to create a better life for herself and her family.

With the help of a classmate, Mwayi continued preparing for her final examinations from home. She also sought assistance from her college principal, who eventually paid her examination fees as a loan. Mwayi's hard work paid off when she passed her diploma examinations. However, she faced another challenge: finding work to support her family. Mwayi secured an internship at the South East Education Division, which exposed her to the Malawi education system.

In 2016, Mwayi's life took another turn when she secured a position as a volunteer administration officer at a charity organisation in her community. She later became the organisation's human resources officer, helping to strengthen internal systems and policies. Her professional growth rekindled her dream of earning a university degree. Through a scholarship, Mwayi studied for a Bachelor of Arts in Human Resources Management at the University of Malawi in 2018.

Mwayi graduated in 2020, marking a significant achievement in her journey. She had proved that financial difficulties did not have to dictate her future. Her story inspired young girls facing similar challenges, showing them that it is possible to overcome obstacles and achieve their dreams. However, another test awaited her when the organisation's country director left the position in 2020.

At just 26, Mwayi was approached to take up the challenge of leading the organisation as country director. Despite initial doubts about her experience and stature, she accepted the role and acted as country director for six months. In 2021, she was appointed country director on a full-time basis, taking responsibility for leading the Malawi team and coordinating its work with the organisation's headquarters.

Today, Mwayi is pursuing a Master of Arts in Development Studies, determined to help others overcome barriers that once stood in her way. Her journey has been recognised as a powerful example of resilience, education, and the courage to keep going when circumstances suggest otherwise. Mwayi's story has inspired many young people, and she continues to motivate others through her work and visits to schools, including her former school, St Mary's Girls Secondary School.
