A mutilated body was found behind the Monday Market in Pankshin Local Government Area of Plateau State, sparking concerns over insecurity in the state. Community members discovered the body on Wednesday morning and alerted security operatives. The remains were evacuated to the General Hospital, Pankshin, where residents gathered to try to establish the identity of the deceased. The body is yet to be identified due to the removal of sensitive organs.

According to a community source, Panshak Rogo, the body had its ears, nose, and private parts tampered with. Rogo urged residents whose relatives or friends had been reported missing to contact the police to assist with possible identification of the deceased. He also appealed to anyone with information about the deceased or the circumstances surrounding his death to report to the police. The Plateau State Police Command was yet to confirm the circumstances surrounding the death.

In a separate incident, at least 13 people were killed in separate attacks across Jos South, Mangu, and Riyom Local Councils on Sunday night. Nine of the victims were passengers traveling to Jos who were killed when suspected terrorists opened fire on their vehicle at Dungus in Jos South Local Council. The spokesperson for the Berom Youth Moulders Association (BYM), Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the attack, which occurred at about 9:40 p.m.

Tengwong said one of those killed was a member of Operation Rainbow. He described the attack as a sad development and lamented the loss of lives. Some passengers sustained gunshot wounds and were rushed to hospitals, where some later died from their injuries. A resident, Musa Dauda, also confirmed the attack, saying some of the injured victims died while receiving treatment, while others remained in hospital.

In Mangu Local Council, suspected terrorists reportedly attacked Vodni in Pushit District, killing two people and injuring four others. The injured victims were receiving treatment at a hospital in Mangu town. Additionally, two other people were reportedly killed in a separate attack at Tahoos in Riyom Local Council around the same period.

The attacks have heightened concerns over insecurity in Plateau State, with residents calling for increased security measures to protect lives and property. The state has experienced recurring violence in recent times, with various communities affected. Efforts to reach security operatives for further details on the attacks were unsuccessful.

The discovery of the mutilated body and the recent attacks have sparked widespread condemnation, with residents and stakeholders calling for an end to the violence.
