The Ahmadiyya Muslim Community in Tanzania has called on the public to remain vigilant and follow expert advice as the country prepares for the possible impacts of El Niño rains. The community's Amir and Chief, Sheikh Khawaja Muzaffar Ahmad, made the call during a media briefing ahead of the 55th Jalsa Salana, a three-day gathering that will bring together thousands of participants from Tanzania and abroad. The event is scheduled to take place from September 25 to 27 at Ahmadiyya Kitonga in Msongola Ward, Ilala Municipality.
Sheikh Ahmad emphasized the importance of taking precautionary measures and paying attention to official warnings, while also praying for protection from the effects of the anticipated rains. He stressed that it is crucial to follow government instructions and remain cautious, given the concerns about the impending El Niño rains. The community is urging citizens to be prepared and support one another in case of emergencies or disasters.
The Jalsa Salana is expected to attract around 5,500 participants from different parts of Tanzania and abroad, including guests from Ghana, Sierra Leone, Burundi, Uganda, Kenya, Rwanda, and Germany. The gathering will provide an opportunity for international guests to experience Tanzania and witness the Ahmadiyya community's message of peace. Sheikh Ahmad expressed his hope that the event will promote understanding and foster positive relationships among people from diverse backgrounds.
Ahmadiyya Tanzania Secretary-General Akbar Rashid highlighted the theme of the Jalsa Salana, which seeks to encourage people to avoid wrongdoing, develop compassion, and strengthen love among members of society. He emphasized that being mindful of God means avoiding evil, developing a compassionate heart, and increasing love among oneself and others. The theme is aimed at promoting moral values and social cohesion.
The Jalsa Salana will bring together government officials, politicians, religious leaders, and other community representatives, with the Prime Minister invited as the guest of honour. The event is expected to provide a platform for dialogue and discussion on issues of national importance, including the challenges posed by El Niño rains.
