The Chairman of Mushin Local Government, Tunbosun Aruwe, has initiated a back-to-school support program, distributing educational materials to pupils in 11 public primary schools across the council. The materials include school bags, shoes, socks, exercise books, pencils, erasers, and sharpeners. This initiative aims to support pupils and reduce the burden of providing basic learning materials on parents.
Aruwe stated that the program is part of his administration's efforts to support pupils and ensure they have a successful academic session. He emphasized that education support should be a continuing responsibility rather than a one-off intervention. The chairman assured that the council's back-to-school support program will be extended to all 51 public primary schools in the area.
The program's goal is to ensure that no pupil in Mushin feels less privileged due to their parents' inability to afford basic school materials. Aruwe urged pupils to take their studies seriously, respect their teachers and parents, and remain disciplined. He encouraged them to view the new academic session as an opportunity to learn, improve, and prepare for a successful future.
Aruwe also emphasized the council's commitment to engaging school authorities, teachers, parents, and other stakeholders to identify areas requiring intervention. He stressed that their responsibility extends beyond providing school materials to creating an environment where children can learn comfortably and effectively.
Some of the beneficiary schools include Army Children Primary School, Estate Primary School, Ladiipo Primary School, Methodist Primary School, and Nigerian Armed Forces Resettlement Centre (NAFRC) Primary School, among others. The initiative has been positively received by school authorities and teachers.
The Head Teacher of Papa Ajao Primary School, Ajibade Alice, commended the council for sustaining the education support program, noting that the materials will ease some of the burden on pupils and their parents. A teacher at Estate Primary School, Lateef Ajao, added that the intervention will complement the efforts of parents and teachers and encourage pupils to participate actively in class.
The distribution of educational materials is part of the council's efforts to support education in Mushin. The chairman's initiative has been well-received by the community, and it is expected to have a positive impact on the academic performance of pupils in the area.
