The Office of the Prime Cabinet Secretary disclosed the visit, saying Mudavadi was pleased to find Oburu making good progress in his recovery.
Mudavadi, who also serves as Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, had travelled to Bondo for the ceremony at Kang'o Ka Jaramogi, where President William Ruto formally handed over Raila's mausoleum to the Odinga family. The ceremony brought together national leaders, members of the Odinga family, and Kenyans from across the country to honour Raila's life and legacy.
According to the Prime Cabinet Secretary's office, Mudavadi briefed Oburu on the ceremony, which was attended by national leaders and Kenyans from across the country. Oburu had been unable to attend the event despite being the ODM party leader and the head of the Odinga family following Raila's death. His absence had attracted attention during the ceremony, with Raila Odinga Junior conveying his uncle's apologies and greetings to those gathered in Bondo.
Oburu nevertheless followed the proceedings and sent a message that was read by his eldest son, Jaoko Oburu. In the message, the Siaya senator said his condition had improved significantly and explained that he was observing bed rest in accordance with his doctors' advice. Oburu described the mausoleum as more than a resting place, saying it would serve as a monument to Raila's ideals of freedom, constitutionalism, justice, and national unity.
President William Ruto responded to concerns about Oburu's health by sending greetings from Oburu and telling the gathering that the veteran politician was dealing with a medical matter. Ruto assured residents that Oburu remained connected to the community and political leadership despite being away receiving medical attention.
