MTN Ghana recently organised a health walk and free health screening in Tamale as part of its community engagement initiative, Savannah Fest. The event aimed to promote physical fitness and encourage the public to undertake regular health checks. Members of the public, including MTN Ghana staff, keep-fit club members, and football enthusiasts, participated in the exercise. They walked through principal streets in Tamale and ended at Jubilee Park, where they accessed free health screenings.

The health screening provided participants with an opportunity to check their blood pressure, blood sugar, body mass index, and eye conditions, among other health parameters. Qualified medical personnel were available to offer advice and referrals where necessary. MTN Ghana's Area Sales Manager, North, Richard Asamane, encouraged the public to take advantage of the health screening to know their health status. He emphasised the importance of maintaining physical and mental well-being.

According to Mr Asamane, the health walk and screening formed part of MTN Ghana's efforts to promote healthy lifestyles and engage communities within its operational areas. He noted that a healthy mind lives in a healthy body and encouraged the public to exercise regularly and adopt healthy lifestyles. The event also included other activities such as a clean-up exercise and an entertainment event scheduled for October 2 at the University for Development Studies.

The medical team for the health screening was led by Dr Daniel Opoku Gyamfi, Executive Director of Savannah Opticals and Eye Care. The team conducted eye examinations to assess participants' vision and eye pressure alongside other health checks. Dr Gyamfi said participants requiring reading glasses or medication were being assisted, while those requiring further medical attention were referred to appropriate health facilities.

Dr Gyamfi encouraged the public to undertake regular health checks and adhere to medical advice to help prevent complications and maintain good health. He noted that the exercise provided participants with an opportunity to identify health conditions they might not have been aware of. The medical team checked over 100 participants during the event.

The Savannah Fest includes other activities such as an inter-community football gala, with the finals scheduled for October 3 in Tamale.
