According to Jihan Gharsli, regional coordinator of the Tunisian Association for Road Accident Prevention in Kasserine, motorcycles have caused 42% of road accident fatalities in the region from January 1 to October 29, 2026. A total of 155 accidents were recorded in the region during this period, resulting in 46 deaths and 242 injuries. This places Kasserine 13th nationally, accounting for 3.78% of total accidents recorded in the country.

The regional office of the Tunisian Association for Road Accident Prevention, in partnership with youth centers in the region, has launched a awareness program targeting motorcycle riders. The program, which began on October 28 and will continue until December 17, 2026, aims to reach 1,800 riders and educate them on the risks of unsafe road behavior and the importance of adhering to traffic rules.

The program includes field activities over two days in each delegation, covering major intersections, black spots where accidents frequently occur, and areas with high motorcycle usage, particularly in rural areas. Motorcycles are widely used in these areas for daily transportation, running errands, and transporting students to educational institutions, making them a popular alternative to other modes of transportation.

Nationally, a total of 1,270 road accidents were recorded from January 1 to October 29, 2026, resulting in 221 fatalities and 1,396 injuries. Excessive speed was the leading cause of accidents, accounting for 867 incidents, followed by failure to respect priority rules (381 accidents), pedestrian behavior (296 accidents), and changing direction (245 accidents).

Other causes of accidents included failure to respect the "stop" sign (130 accidents), prohibited overtaking (95 accidents), and driving without a license (32 accidents). The governorate of Tunis recorded the highest number of accidents (557), resulting in 100 fatalities and 685 injuries, followed by Mahdia (339 accidents) and Nablus (333 accidents).

Kasserine recorded 155 accidents, while Qafsa recorded 221 accidents and Kebili recorded 49 accidents. These numbers highlight the importance of intensifying field interventions and awareness activities, particularly for motorcycle users, and promoting respect for traffic safety rules to reduce accidents and minimize human losses.

The awareness program in Kasserine aims to address the alarming rate of road accidents in the region, particularly among motorcycle riders. By educating riders on safe road behavior and promoting adherence to traffic rules, the program hopes to reduce the number of accidents and fatalities in the region.
