The Swiss Import Promotion Program (SIPPO) is conducting a study for the Moroccan Association of Textile and Clothing Industries (AMITH) to identify new business opportunities in Germany. The study, announced on September 11, will run for 45 days and is expected to be completed by the end of 2026. It will provide AMITH with up-to-date knowledge of the German market and its key players.

The study will cover buyers, brands, distributors, and order-givers in Germany, examining their expectations for products, volumes, quality requirements, and sustainability criteria. It will also include a directory of contacts and a calendar of major industry events. This initiative builds on existing contacts between Moroccan and German textile industry players, including a meeting between AMITH and Hugo Boss in June 2025.

In October 2025, a delegation from the German Textile and Clothing Dialogue (DTB) visited Morocco with SIPPO's support. The study aims to help Moroccan textile companies tap into the lucrative German market, which imported $53 billion worth of clothing and textiles in 2025. This represents about 22% of European imports, making it a significant market for Moroccan exporters.

According to Trade Map data, the European Union imported $245 billion worth of clothing and textiles in 2025. Germany was the largest importer, ahead of France, Spain, and Italy. Moroccan exports to Germany have been increasing, rising from $583 million in 2022 to $764 million in 2025. This represents about 2.2% of the EU's total imports of textile products.

The Moroccan textile industry is a significant sector, providing employment and contributing to exports. It is the second-largest employer in the industrial sector, after the automotive industry, and the third-largest contributor to industrial exports. The industry is also diversifying its exports, with China, Bangladesh, and Turkey being major competitors in the German market.

The study is expected to provide valuable insights for Moroccan textile companies looking to expand into the German market. It will help them understand the needs and expectations of German buyers and distributors, and identify new business opportunities. The Moroccan textile industry is optimistic about its chances of success in Germany, given its existing strengths and competitive advantages.

The expansion into the German market is part of Morocco's broader strategy to increase its exports and diversify its economy. The country is investing in its textile industry, with a focus on sustainability and quality. With the right strategy and support, Moroccan textile companies are well-positioned to succeed in the German market and beyond.
