The Supreme Audit Institution of Morocco, under the leadership of President Zineb El Adwi, recently led a delegation to the 63rd Executive Council meeting of the African Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (AfroSAI). The meeting took place in N'Djamena, Chad, from November 2-6. This event coincided with the 50th anniversary of AfroSAI's establishment. The meeting was co-organized by the Chadian Court of Accounts and the Moroccan Supreme Audit Institution.

During a press conference preceding the meeting, El Adwi emphasized the significance of this event. It occurs a year before the end of AfroSAI's 2022-2027 strategic plan and marks the organization's 50th anniversary. El Adwi expressed her hopes that the discussions would yield results that meet expectations, particularly regarding the development of member institutions' capacities and the expansion of cooperation with technical and financial partners.

The meeting's agenda included sessions by two technical committees responsible for implementing AfroSAI's strategic priorities. There was also the annual strategic planning meeting and a meeting of the African Journal of Comprehensive Review editorial committee. General sessions of the Executive Council discussed organizational and strategic issues. These included evaluating progress on the 2022-2027 strategic plan and preparing for a new plan for the upcoming phase.

The General Secretariat presented a communication strategy project. This project was prepared in coordination with various partners and aims to enhance AfroSAI's visibility. It also seeks to highlight the roles of supreme audit institutions among the African public and decision-makers. To commemorate AfroSAI's 50th anniversary, a roundtable discussion was held. The topic was the management of public debt in Africa and the conditions for its independent oversight.

El Adwi oversaw the roundtable discussion, which included the Chadian Minister of Finance and representatives from supreme audit institutions in Kenya, Liberia, Gambia, Tunisia, and Senegal. There was also a representative from the International Organization of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI) Development Initiative. A celebratory event honored past presidents and secretaries-general who have led AfroSAI since its inception in 1976.

The Moroccan Supreme Audit Institution continues to play its role as AfroSAI's general secretary and host of its permanent secretariat in Rabat. The institution supports AfroSAI's activities in supreme audit and public finance. This contributes to improving the performance of its member institutions and enhancing their role in protecting public funds and supporting development in Africa.

The participation of the Moroccan Supreme Audit Institution in AfroSAI reflects its commitment to promoting cooperation and sharing experiences among African supreme audit institutions. This collaboration aims to strengthen professional capacities, improve performance, and support development in the region. The event demonstrated the importance of cooperation and collaboration in achieving these goals.
