Morocco's national railway office, ONCF, has set ambitious targets to significantly expand its railway network. By 2030, ONCF aims to transport 100 million passengers, generating 10 billion dirhams in revenue and achieving an operating margin of over 5 billion dirhams. This growth is expected to be driven by the gradual introduction of new infrastructure and rolling stock.

A report on public institutions and companies attached to the 2027 finance bill draft revealed that 96 billion dirhams have been allocated for railway development until 2030. This investment will be distributed across various projects, including the extension of the high-speed train line (TGV) from Kenitra to Marrakech, which began construction in April 2025.

The 430-kilometer TGV extension will receive 53 billion dirhams in funding. An additional 29 billion dirhams will be spent on acquiring 168 new-generation trains, which will contribute to the development of the national railway system and promote local manufacturing. Furthermore, 14 billion dirhams will be allocated to maintenance programs and upgrading the current network and regional rapid trains.

Several key projects have already been launched, including the Casablanca railway program in September 2025. This program aims to enhance connectivity with Mohammed V Airport, the Hassan II stadium, and the Casablanca-South station. These developments are expected to significantly improve the efficiency and capacity of Morocco's railway network.

ONCF's financial performance has shown positive trends. As of June 2026, the office reported a revenue of 2.479 billion dirhams, representing a 2% increase. Despite a net loss of 716 million dirhams, ONCF's investments exceeded 4.83 billion dirhams. The annual forecasts for 2026 predict revenues of over 5.27 billion dirhams and investments of 18.2 billion dirhams.

The growth trend is expected to continue, with projected revenues of 6.05 billion dirhams in 2027, 6.56 billion dirhams in 2028, and 7.04 billion dirhams in 2029. These increases will be accompanied by significant investments, exceeding 29 billion dirhams in 2027. The planned developments are set to transform Morocco's railway network, enhancing its capacity and efficiency.

The ambitious expansion plans for Morocco's railway network are set to have a profound impact on the country's transportation infrastructure. With a focus on increasing capacity, efficiency, and revenue, ONCF is poised to achieve its targets and become a major player in the region's transportation sector.
