The Office National des Chemins de Fer (ONCF) of Morocco has been awarded the prestigious UIC Sustainability Impact Award 2026 at InnoTrans, one of the world's largest transport exhibitions, held in Berlin from September 22 to 25. The award, presented by the International Union of Railways (UIC), recognizes ONCF's "Rewater Train" project in the "Natural Resources" category. This initiative, implemented in Casablanca and being extended to Kenitra and Tangier, enables the reuse of 97% of treated water and reduces the need for new water resources by 70%.
The "Rewater Train" project has already achieved significant results, with over 8,000 cubic meters of water recycled. This accomplishment demonstrates ONCF's commitment to sustainable and environmentally friendly practices. The award ceremony took place during InnoTrans 2026, which gathered a record number of 3,170 exhibitors from 59 countries, showcasing 180 world premieres and 113 railway vehicles from 17 countries.
In addition to the UIC Sustainability Impact Award, ONCF also presented its "Inclusive Mobility" project, which was selected as a finalist in the "Accessibility, Diversity & Inclusion" category. This project aligns with ONCF's efforts to promote more sustainable and responsible transportation. The Office is actively working towards creating a more inclusive and environmentally friendly railway system.
Mohamed Rabie Khlie, Director General of ONCF, expressed pride in the organization's achievement, highlighting the importance of sustainable practices in the railway sector. The award serves as recognition of ONCF's dedication to reducing its environmental footprint and promoting eco-friendly transportation solutions.
InnoTrans 2026, the 15th edition of the exhibition, saw a significant increase in participation, with around 200 more companies compared to the 2024 edition. The event provided a platform for ONCF to showcase Morocco's ambitions in the rail industry and highlight its commitment to sustainability and innovation.
