The Moroccan National Road Safety Agency (Narsa) has released its definitive report for 2025, highlighting a concerning trend in road safety. The country recorded 4,786 fatalities, a significant increase of 18.94% compared to 2024. This rise in mortality is accompanied by an increase in accidents, with 160,661 incidents reported, representing a 12.14% increase from the previous year. The number of lightly injured individuals also rose by 13.26% to 217,912, while the number of seriously injured individuals decreased by 2.41% to 14,363.

A breakdown of the data reveals that the majority of accidents occurred in urban areas, with a 9.69% increase in accidents within agglomerations and a 22.07% increase outside of them. The number of fatalities and lightly injured individuals also rose in both urban and rural areas, with the most significant increases observed outside of agglomerations. The Narsa report highlights that the evolution of indicators varies depending on the location, with a general aggravation of road safety observed outside of urban areas.

The most vulnerable road users, including motorcyclists and pedestrians, accounted for a significant proportion of fatalities in 2025. Motorcyclists, including those on two and three-wheel motorized vehicles (2-3RM), represented 45% of all fatalities, with 2,154 deaths. Pedestrians accounted for 26.1% of fatalities, with 1,251 deaths, while vehicle occupants represented 18.4% of fatalities, with 883 deaths. Cyclists accounted for 4.5% of fatalities, with 213 deaths.

The Narsa report also highlights that the increase in road fatalities in 2025 primarily concerned vulnerable road users and several categories of motorized users. The number of fatalities among motorcyclists, pedestrians, and vehicle occupants increased significantly, with rises of 23.94%, 17.13%, and 13.79%, respectively. However, some categories, such as bus and coach occupants, saw a decrease in fatalities, with a 7.41% decline.

The monthly breakdown of road fatalities in 2025 reveals that August was the deadliest month, with 534 fatalities, representing a 30.2% increase compared to 2024. December was also a particularly deadly month, with 411 fatalities, marking a 21.2% increase from the previous year. In contrast, some months, such as February and March, saw more moderate increases in fatalities, with rises of 5.2% and 15.6%, respectively.

The regional breakdown of road fatalities in 2025 shows that the Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, and Rabat-Salé-Kénitra regions were the most accident-prone, with 1,113, 865, and 644 fatalities, respectively. The Narsa report notes that the increase in road fatalities in 2025 affected almost all regions of the country, with the most significant increases observed in Casablanca-Settat, Marrakech-Safi, and Souss-Massa.

The Narsa report concludes that the 2025 road safety statistics highlight a concerning trend in Morocco, with a significant increase in road fatalities and accidents. The agency emphasizes the need for continued efforts to improve road safety, particularly for vulnerable road users. The report also notes that some regions, such as Guelmim-Oued Noun, saw a decrease in road fatalities, demonstrating that targeted initiatives can be effective in reducing road mortality.
