As of October 1, 2026, Morocco has entered a new phase of increased fuel prices. Diesel has surpassed 16 dirhams per liter in several distribution stations. According to professional sources, diesel prices have risen by approximately 80 cents, while premium gasoline has increased by around 39 cents. This development follows a meeting by the government to address the impact of rising fuel costs on the national economy.
The price of diesel now ranges between 16.10 and 16.18 dirhams per liter, while premium gasoline is priced between 15.50 and 15.65 dirhams. Variations in prices occur depending on the distribution company and city. Vivo Energy Morocco informed its station managers of recommended prices effective from October 1: 16.18 dirhams per liter for FuelSave diesel and 16.73 dirhams for V-Power diesel, compared to 15.63 dirhams for FuelSave gasoline and 16.33 dirhams for V-Power gasoline.
These price adjustments follow a previous increase on September 16, which saw diesel rise by 34 cents and gasoline by 27 cents. This upward trend began in mid-July, with diesel experiencing a cumulative increase of approximately three and a half dirhams per liter since its summer lows. This escalation raises concerns about increased transportation and goods distribution costs.
In response to the price surge, Moroccan Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch chaired a meeting of the ministerial committee tasked with monitoring the impact of geopolitical tensions in the Middle East on the national economy. The committee decided to continue providing exceptional support to transportation professionals to prevent price hikes from being passed on to public transportation users.
The support aims to ensure the regular supply of markets and maintain public transportation services at current rates, without any increase to citizens. The committee confirmed that the energy stock is secure, and the supply of agricultural products and essential goods is proceeding normally despite global pressure on energy products.
Morocco has a reserve stock of butane gas and diesel that covers 40 to 60 days. Transportation professionals will be able to submit benefit requests electronically through a dedicated platform. The price increase is attributed to global fluctuations in oil and refined product prices, exacerbated by the Russian-Ukrainian conflict and tensions in the Gulf.
The support measures are limited to transportation professionals, while private vehicle owners must absorb the full increase in fuel costs. The next price review is expected in mid-October. The government's decision seeks to balance the needs of citizens and businesses in the face of rising global energy costs.
