The Moroccan Women's Rights Federation, on the occasion of the National Women's Day on October 10, called for making gender equality and human rights a priority in public policies. This would promote democracy, social and territorial justice, especially in the context of the country's ongoing political, economic, and social transformations. The federation emphasized the need for real reforms to ensure women's rights.
The federation noted that despite constitutional commitments, gaps persist between rhetoric and reality. They called for an evaluation of previous policies and programs, linking future commitments to clear responsibilities and measurable results. The federation based its assessment on official data, reports, and its own monitoring tools, including the barometer developed with CIOFEM.
In terms of economic and social equality, the federation highlighted the weak participation of women in the labor market, wage disparities, and precarious working conditions. They also pointed to the burden of unpaid care work and unequal access to education, healthcare, transportation, and social protection, particularly in rural and marginalized areas.
The federation stressed that the effects of drought, production changes, digitalization, artificial intelligence, and rising living costs require proactive policies that consider their different impacts on women. They also called for a review of the Family Code to ensure equal rights and responsibilities and protection for children.
The federation emphasized the need for enhanced mechanisms for prevention, protection, investigation, and redress in the face of various forms of violence against women, including digital violence. They also called for an evaluation of Law 103.13 and the promotion of women's political participation and representation.
The federation requested clear political and institutional commitments to achieve real equality and parity, with defined responsibilities, objectives, deadlines, resources, and monitoring and evaluation mechanisms. They also demanded an acceleration of legislative and institutional reforms, including a review of the Family Code and the Penal Code.
The federation's demands also included ensuring equal political participation of women, adopting a comprehensive policy to promote women's employment and decent work, and reducing wage disparities. They emphasized the importance of independent participation of the women's movement in preparing, monitoring, and evaluating public policies.
