Nizar Baraka, General Secretary of Morocco's Independence Party, has stated that the next phase following the legislative elections requires shifting focus from electoral competition to addressing the expectations of citizens. In a press statement after the announcement of preliminary election results, Baraka highlighted the need for collective action and mobilization to tackle major challenges facing the country. He emphasized that these challenges necessitate comprehensive engagement from all active forces in Morocco.
Baraka expressed pride in the trust placed in the Independence Party by citizens, extending gratitude to party activists and candidates for their efforts during the elections. He also welcomed the party's continued presence among the leading political parties, congratulating other parties on their results. The Independence Party secured 65 seats in the preliminary results of the legislative elections held on September 23, 2026.
In the Mohammadia constituency, the Independence Party's Said Tadelawi, the Justice and Development Party's Al-Tahami Mohamed, and the National Rally of Independents' Hicham Ait Manna won the three seats available in the House of Representatives. Tadelawi from the Independence Party garnered 9,114 votes, securing the top spot in the Mohammadia constituency.
In another notable result, Mustafa Lkhousam, a world champion in kickboxing and candidate for the Social Democratic Movement party, won a seat in the Safro constituency with 19,608 votes. Lkhousam's victory was significant, with a substantial lead over his closest competitor, Abdelkader Al Jarrar.
The legislative elections also saw a change in dynamics in the Hay Hassani constituency in Casablanca. The Justice and Development Party regained the lead, reversing the 2021 outcome where the National Rally of Independents took the top spot. Samir Chouki, the Justice and Development Party's candidate, secured the highest number of votes in the constituency.
On a different note, the Olympic Club of Khouribka has officially lifted the international ban imposed by FIFA, allowing the club to register new players. The club's management successfully settled international disputes, fulfilling all required financial and administrative conditions.
Morocco has called for the adoption of human rights-based governance for digital technologies and artificial intelligence, emphasizing the protection of women and girls from technology-facilitated violence. This appeal was made during the 63rd session of the Human Rights Council in Geneva, highlighting the need for accessible remedies for victims.
