Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita has called for a stronger voice for Global South countries in international governance. The Moroccan minister identified three priorities to make South-South cooperation a strategic lever for development and economic emergence. These priorities include strengthening the influence of Global South countries in international governance, dynamizing South-South partnerships through innovative and mutually beneficial mechanisms, and building a common agenda in strategic sectors such as artificial intelligence, food security, digital transition, and climate change.
Bourita also advocated for a profound reform of the international financial architecture and the United Nations to make them more representative, inclusive, and equitable. He emphasized the need to strengthen the capacity of global governance to prevent crises and anticipate shocks. The minister's call for reform reflects the need for a more equitable and effective international governance system.
The high-level meeting was organized at the initiative of Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar. Bourita's intervention was part of a broader effort to promote a stronger voice for Global South countries in international affairs. Morocco has been actively promoting several initiatives to support Global South countries, including the African Atlantic Gas Pipeline, the Atlantic Initiative to facilitate access for Sahel states to the Atlantic Ocean, and the Triple A Initiative for adapting African agriculture to climate change. These initiatives reflect Morocco's commitment to solidarity and co-development with Global South countries.
