The family of late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, has requested the postponement of a DNA examination scheduled for Saturday, October 31. The examination aims to help establish the paternity of Liam, Mohbad's son. In a statement, the family expressed concerns about the identity of a United States laboratory expected to analyze the samples and the arrangements for collecting and analyzing the biological samples.

The family questioned whether the Lagos State DNA and Forensic Centre, designated under a May 5, 2026 court order, would conduct the analysis itself or merely collect samples for shipment abroad. They demanded full disclosure of the laboratory's identity and clarification of arrangements for collecting and analyzing the biological samples. The family also requested the proposed laboratory's name, address, accreditation status, and details of the procedures for preserving, transporting, and analyzing the samples.

The family is concerned that samples may be collected in Lagos and transferred to an overseas laboratory without sufficient information about the facility or procedures involved. They maintained that any arrangement differing materially from the court's directive should be clarified through the appropriate judicial process. The family insisted that safeguards must be established to verify that samples collected in Lagos are the same ones eventually examined overseas.

The statement expressed concern about possible mishandling or interference during the process but clarified that the family was not alleging that any manipulation had already occurred. The family said its objections were intended to protect the credibility of the examination rather than prevent the paternity question from being resolved. They also referred to unresolved concerns about the handling of biological samples during examinations connected to Mohbad's death.

However, the family acknowledged that those concerns required clarification and did not constitute established evidence of wrongdoing. The family consequently demanded that Saturday's examination be postponed until the outstanding issues were addressed, all parties received adequate notice, and further court directions were obtained where necessary. Mohbad died on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27.

The question of Liam's paternity has remained the subject of a legal dispute involving Mohbad's father, Joseph Aloba, and his widow, Omowunmi Aloba. A Lagos court had previously ordered DNA testing to resolve the dispute, but disagreements over the testing arrangements have continued to delay the process. The family head, Samuel Aloba, signed the statement on Thursday.

The DNA examination is scheduled to take place at the Mainland General Hospital/IDH in Yaba, Lagos. The family is seeking clarification on the testing arrangements to ensure the credibility of the examination and protect the interests of all parties involved.
