Minya University's Administration for Scientific and Cultural Relations recently hosted an informative session on the UK government's Chevening scholarship program. The event, held under the auspices of Dr. Essam El-Din Sadek Farahat, the university's president, and supervised by Dr. Hussam Shouki, the vice president for postgraduate studies and research, drew the participation of several researchers and faculty members from various university faculties. The session aimed to introduce attendees to the scholarship opportunities offered by the UK government.

The session featured a detailed presentation by Niveen Sharaf, director of the scholarship program at the British Embassy in Cairo, who discussed the British grant and fellowship system, the objectives of the Chevening program, and the application and selection process. Sharaf also highlighted the benefits of studying in the UK, including the international recognition of qualifications, diverse programs and specializations, and the international educational and cultural environment.

Dr. Essam El-Din Sadek Farahat emphasized that Minya University prioritizes introducing faculty members, researchers, and students to international grant and program opportunities. He noted that these opportunities are crucial for developing academic and research capabilities and providing chances for interaction with global scientific and research institutions. This, in turn, enables the university to build a generation of researchers capable of competing internationally.

The university's vice president for postgraduate studies and research, Dr. Hussam Shouki, explained that the session aimed to provide researchers with direct access to information on international grants and help them understand the application conditions and mechanisms for selecting suitable programs. This enables them to prepare strong nomination files and capitalize on opportunities offered by international institutions and donors.

During the session, Sharaf reviewed the Chevening program, which is one of the prominent international grant and fellowship programs offered by the UK government. The program targets future leaders and influencers by providing opportunities for academic and professional development and building international networks. The program offers a master's degree scholarship that allows students to pursue a one-year master's degree at a British university.

The scholarship program provides support for tuition fees, living expenses, and travel costs. Sharaf highlighted the importance of British education, which is internationally recognized, and the diversity of programs and specializations available. She also discussed the conditions and procedures for applying for the scholarship, including the requirement for work experience and the selection of three qualified master's programs that align with the applicant's academic and professional path.

The session concluded with an overview of the application deadline for the current cycle (2027/2028) and the evaluation and interview stages. The presenter also encouraged researchers to consult official sources for updated information on each cycle and program. The session witnessed active participation from researchers, who raised several inquiries about eligibility conditions, program and university selection, and application mechanisms.
