Nigerian gospel minister and worship leader, Akan Christopher Edem, popularly known as Minstrel Akan, is set to take his biannual worship programme, 'Praise Jesus,' to Ghana for its first international edition. The 19th edition of the programme is scheduled to hold in Accra, Ghana, on October 18, 2026. This event marks a significant milestone in the programme's history, which began in June 2018.
The decision to take the programme to Ghana is driven by Minstrel Akan's desire to extend its message beyond geographical boundaries. According to him, praise is universal, and the Christian faith transcends nationality, language, and borders. The vision behind 'Praise Jesus' has always been to create an atmosphere where people can turn their hearts to God and celebrate His faithfulness.
The Ghana edition of 'Praise Jesus' will feature praise, worship, music ministry, and Christian fellowship, with Minstrel Akan expected to lead worshippers in a celebration centred on the Christian faith and the works of God. This event will form part of Akan's Ghana Ministry Tour, marking a new phase in the worship initiative.
Reflecting on the journey since the programme began, Minstrel Akan said the experience had taught him valuable lessons about faith, obedience, and perseverance. He noted that every edition had brought its own challenges, lessons, and testimonies, yet he had continued to see what he described as God's faithfulness.
Minstrel Akan emphasized that ministry should not be measured primarily by audience size, public recognition, or the prominence of a platform. He stressed that ministry is about obedience and remaining faithful to the assignment God has given. For Akan, worship extends beyond music and performance, describing it as a lifestyle of honouring God through obedience, character, service, choices, and gratitude.
Minstrel Akan views music as one of the ways to express worship, but he believes that worship is much bigger than singing. He maintained that the essence of worship could be lost if a person's lifestyle did not reflect the God being praised. This perspective underscores the significance of living a life that aligns with one's faith.
The international expansion of 'Praise Jesus' is expected to continue, with Ghana serving as the starting point. Minstrel Akan hopes that the programme will eventually reach other countries, spreading its message of praise and worship to a broader audience. The upcoming event in Ghana is anticipated to be a celebration of the Christian faith, uniting people from different backgrounds in worship and fellowship.
