The Minority in Parliament has made allegations against the Minister for Sports and Recreation and the National Sports Authority (NSA) of creating fake portfolios for VISA applicants. According to Vincent Ekow-Assefuah, a ranking member of Parliament's Committee for Sports, the NSA and Sports Ministry submitted names of individuals who were not staff members to foreign diplomatic missions. This was allegedly done at a cost of $8,000 and $9,000 per person.
Ekow-Assefuah made the allegations in an interview on the JoyNews Channel. He stated that the NSA and Sports Ministry presented individuals as staff members, despite them not being part of the organizations. The Minority claims that some individuals were charged $8,000 and $9,000 to be given VISAs and were presented as staff of the National Sports Authority and Ghana Tourism Authority.
A letter allegedly written by Yaw Gyamfi Kusi Awere to Amankwaah Jemimah was cited as evidence. The letter claimed that Comfort Ahiadome was presented as board secretary. However, Ekow-Assefuah stated that at the time the email was sent, the legal Advisor to the NSA was doubling as the board secretary. Currently, Mavis is the board secretary, and she knows that her predecessor is not Comfort Ahiadome.
Another case of impersonation involved Felicia Ahiadome, who was allegedly presented to the US Embassy as a Procurement Officer. However, Assefuah alleged that Felicia Ahiadome was not part of the NSA's listed Procurement Officers at the time of the letter. The Minority claims that these portfolios were created fraudulently and do not exist as far as the organizational structure of the NSA is concerned.
The Minority has subsequently called for the immediate dismissal and prosecution of the Minister for Sports and Recreation, Kofi Eddie Adams, and the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Tourism Authority (GTA) over their alleged involvement in the 2026 FIFA World Cup visa scandal. The allegations have sparked controversy, with many calling for investigations into the matter.
