Central Regional Minister, Ekow Panyin Okyere Eduamoah, has urged the clergy, Imams, and chiefs to utilize their platforms to positively influence people's behavior towards environmental conservation. He made this appeal at an accountability forum organized by the Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa District Assembly. The Minister emphasized that these platforms are powerful tools for reaching a large audience and promoting attitudinal change.
The forum was held to explain how the district assembly utilized its share of the 2025 District Assemblies' Common Fund and to receive feedback from the people. The Minister stressed that if pulpits and mosques were effectively used to educate people against littering and indiscriminate dumping of waste, the assemblies would not have to spend 10% of the common fund on waste collection. He encouraged people to change their behavior to allocate funds for more developmental projects in education and health sectors.
The Minister highlighted that successes are not achieved in a vacuum but through planning and hard work. He mentioned that the government is undertaking programs, projects, and innovations aimed at improving the lives of citizens despite inherited challenges. He appealed to the people of Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa Constituency to continue supporting the Assembly, the Member of Parliament, and the government to execute more projects and programs.
District Chief Executive for Asikuma-Odoben-Brakwa, Olivia Bentil, stated that the district's vision is to be a leading district in improved quality of life through wealth creation, sustainable development programs, and good governance. She mentioned that the district's population is approximately 143,780, with 32 electoral areas, eight towns, and area councils.
In 2025, the Assembly budgeted GHc26,779,269.20 and received GHc14,624,616.00 as its share of the common fund. The DCE outlined that 10% of the fund, GHc3,656,154.00, was used for ongoing construction works of a 24-hour market, while other allocations included health, water, environment, furniture, administration, and legacy projects.
The DCE highlighted several priority projects executed in 2025, including the construction of a 24-Hour Economy Model Markets, CHPS Compounds, a KG Block, Primary School Block, and JHS School Block. Other projects included the supply of 300 Mono Desks and 300 dual Desks, completion of legacy projects, and the renovation of a CHPS compound and a magistrate's bungalow.
Nana Osa Fori III, the Chief of Brakwa, who chaired the event, thanked President Mahama for the good works being executed in the area. He commended the Assembly and MP for the numerous projects executed in 2025 and appealed to the President, MP, and District Assembly to consider other communities yet to benefit. He urged citizens to pay their taxes to facilitate more developmental projects and programs.
