Ghana's Minister for Works, Housing and Water Resources, Ahmed Ibrahim, has urged stakeholders to prioritise the growth and development of quality education in the Banda District of the Bono Region. He made the call during an inspection of ongoing Ghana Education Trust Fund (GETFund) educational projects at the Bandaman Senior High Technical School. The minister emphasised the need for collaboration to empower young people with scientific and technological skills.
The Banda District has prioritised secondary and technical education to equip students with practical skills in areas like electrical installation, carpentry, and building. The minister inspected various projects, including a dining hall and kitchen, two-storey dormitory blocks, and a three-storey classroom block. These projects aim to enhance the school's infrastructure and provide students with a conducive learning environment.
The minister noted that strengthening basic education is crucial to producing teachable children for Senior High Schools (SHSs). He expressed confidence that with the interventions in place, the district will produce one of the best SHSs in the country within the next five to 10 years. The minister's efforts aim to transform the economic potential of the district and improve the livelihoods of its people.
Tolee Pe Aboatia II, the Acting President of the Banda Traditional Council, has expressed gratitude to the MP for his efforts to improve quality education in the area. He noted that the people in the area had faced significant challenges in accessing SHS education in the past, but the situation has changed now. The traditional leader emphasised the people's dedication to supporting the government in facilitating holistic development.
Tolee Aboatia stressed that the MP and the government alone cannot shoulder the progressive development of the area and called on the people to contribute their quota towards improving education. He encouraged the community to support the government's efforts to enhance the growth and development of education in the district.
