Microhaem Scientifics, a leading medical supplies company and indigenous IVD test kits manufacturer in the Great Lakes Region of Africa, is seeking an exceptional Research and Development Director. The successful candidate will lead technical research, design execution, and product development strategy. Based in Kampala, Uganda, the company has been in operation since 2012 and specializes in Point of Care tests, Molecular Diagnostics tests, and research and development in neglected tropical diseases.
The Research and Development Director will serve as the Subject Matter Expert across Microhaem Scientifics' medical device and IVD portfolio, driving end-to-end product development, design controls, risk management, and verification and validation activities from concept to commercialization. The director will lead a team and work closely with cross-functional departments, including Quality and Regulatory Affairs, to ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
Key responsibilities of the Research and Development Director include technical leadership, product development, and regulatory strategy. The director will translate complex user and clinical needs into executable system specifications, development roadmaps, and risk mitigation strategies. They will also direct design transfer activities to commercial manufacturing, ensuring seamless scale-up and supplier integration.
The ideal candidate will have a Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Biomedical Engineering, or a closely related field, with at least 5 years of direct industrial experience developing IVD products/technologies. Alternatively, a Master's Degree in a related field with at least 10 years of direct industrial experience is required. The candidate should have deep expertise in developing point-of-care assays and molecular diagnostic platforms.
Microhaem Scientifics offers a comprehensive compensation package, including a base salary of $60,000 to $84,000 USD net per annum, housing, transportation, medical insurance, and retirement/NSSF contributions.
