The Mauritius Film Development Corporation (MFDC) is celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026, marking four decades of contribution to the development and promotion of the Mauritian film and audiovisual sector. As part of this milestone, the MFDC has launched its 40th Anniversary programme, including the unveiling of its 40th Anniversary logo and the National Short Film Competition 2026. The programme aims to celebrate the MFDC's journey, recognise the people and talent that have contributed to the sector's development, and create opportunities for the next generation of Mauritian audiovisual professionals.
The 40th Anniversary programme was officially launched on Monday, 5 October 2026, at the Mauritius Telecom Campus in Ebène. The National Short Film Competition 2026, under the tagline "Your Story. Your Vision. Your Mauritius," reflects the MFDC's commitment to encouraging creativity, nurturing emerging talent, and promoting the development of the Mauritian film and audiovisual sector. The competition seeks to promote Mauritius as a filming destination and facilitate local and international productions.
Established in 1986, the MFDC has contributed to the development and promotion of the Mauritian film and audiovisual sector through various initiatives, programmes, training, and capacity-building activities. The Corporation continues to promote the sector by facilitating local and international productions, developing local talent, and creating opportunities for Mauritian audiovisual professionals. The 40th Anniversary celebrations are an opportunity to recognise the filmmakers, producers, directors, actors, technicians, and creatives who have contributed to the sector's development over the past four decades.
The 40th Anniversary programme will feature a series of initiatives, activities, workshops, screenings, and events throughout the anniversary year. The programme includes Cinema Week, a series of workshops, avant-premières, Sinema dan Vilaz, and industry engagement initiatives. Cinema Week will feature a range of screenings and audience-focused activities, including collaborations with Embassies for special screenings and dedicated cinema experiences for senior citizens and children.
A series of specialised workshops will be organised as part of the MFDC's 40th Anniversary programme. The workshops will provide participants with practical knowledge, creative skills, and industry insights across different stages of audiovisual production. Topics will include photography, colour grading and post-production, and film distribution and international sales.
The photography workshop, "Clicko," will introduce children to the fundamentals of photography in a fun and creative way. The colour grading and post-production workshop, presented by Sony, will explore the basics of colour correction and grading, while the film distribution and international sales workshop, presented by Côte Ouest Audiovisuel, will focus on the role of film distributors and the importance of understanding target audiences.
The MFDC's 40th Anniversary celebrations are a national milestone, bringing together the wider audiovisual and creative community, industry partners, stakeholders, and the public.
