Melcom Ghana, a leading retail company, has embarked on a week-long initiative to serve 1,000 meals to children in selected orphanage homes across Accra. The initiative, which began on October 5, 2026, aims to support institutions caring for children and remind them that they are not alone. Five selected homes will receive 200 hot meals each, with the programme expected to climax at the Accra Rehabilitation Centre.

The Public Relations Officer for Melcom Ghana, Joseph Kpormegbey, stated that the initiative forms part of the company's efforts to give back to society. He explained that the decision to focus on orphanage homes at this time was deliberate, following other donations undertaken by the company during the year. According to Mr. Kpormegbey, the company deemed it fit to give to society, particularly orphanages, at this particular time.

The selected institutions benefiting from the initiative include Blissful Children's Home and the Accra Rehabilitation Centre. Children in these institutions will receive meals throughout the week, with the programme covering areas from Osu to Teshie. Melcom Ghana's gesture is part of its corporate social responsibility activities, aimed at making a positive impact on the lives of children in need.

According to Mr. Kpormegbey, the initiative is not intended to be a one-off gesture. He indicated that Melcom Ghana plans to continue supporting the beneficiary institutions when resources are available. The company wants the children to know that they are thought of and that they will continue to receive support from Melcom Ghana.

The meal presentation will continue at other selected institutions throughout the week. The programme is expected to bring joy and relief to the children in these institutions, who often face challenges in accessing basic necessities like food. Melcom Ghana's initiative is a testament to the company's commitment to giving back to the community.

The initiative has been well-received by the beneficiary institutions, which have expressed gratitude to Melcom Ghana for the support. The company's efforts to support vulnerable children have been commended by stakeholders, who are calling for more corporate entities to follow suit. The impact of Melcom Ghana's initiative is expected to be felt beyond the duration of the programme.
